Equipment

The following equipment is mandatory for all competitors of the Southern Crossing

  1. Windproof waterproof jacket and trousers

  2. Full set of thermal underwear and a spare top, warm hat, gloves,

  3. Event map

  4. Compass (one per team)

  5. A first aid kit

  6. Survival blanket

  7. Food and water


Getting here

The start at Kaitoke is approximately a 45 minute drive from Wellington.

There are options to camp at the start area or stay in   accommodation in nearby Upper Hutt.

A Shuttle bus will be leaving Wellington railway station at 5:45am and 6:45am, Melling Railway station at 6:00am and 7:00am, to take participants to the start at Kaitoke. This is at an additional cost and bookings are required.

A Shuttle bus will be leaving Otaki Forks immediately after the prize giving, to take participants to Paraparaumu railway station, Porirua railway station and onto Wellington.


Registration and race start

Registration is 30 minutes before each race start but will be confirmed in correspondence before the race.

Start times are handicapped, dependant on your estimated completion time. They are at 7:00am, 7:45am, 8:00am, 8:30am and 9:00am.


During the race

Marshals will be stationed at Alpha Hut and at Kime Hut. Race numbers and split times will be recorded at these points. Support will be provided at Alpha and Kime huts and includes limited water and juice. First Aid is also available.

Marshals will be stationed at the Dress Circle, half way between Mt Alpha and Mt Hector. They can offer First Aid and help if required.


After the race

Recovery tents and refreshments/luncheon will be available at the finish.

A First Aid station will be provided at the finish.

Massage stations will be available, at the finish, for a small fee.

Spot prizes and trophies will be presented at the completion of the race, approx 4:00pm, at the finish area.
